Monel 400 is a Nickel-Copper alloy (Nickel Alloy 400) that offers good heat and corrosion resistance, along with high strength and weldability. Monel 400 Plate and Sheet is often used in sea water, salt and caustic applications due to its relatively High Nickel content. It offers a low corrosion rate in free flowing brackish or seawater applications. In addition, Monel 400 adds excellent corrosion resistance in most freshwater conditions, as well as in a variety of non-oxidizing corrosive conditions. This alloy also performs well in low temperature applications.
Beyond its corrosion resistance, Monel 400 retains excellent mechanical properties across a wide range of temperatures, making it a versatile choice for both cryogenic and moderately elevated temperature service. Its resistance to stress-corrosion cracking, particularly in chloride-bearing environments, makes it a preferred material for marine hardware, valves, pumps, and fittings. The alloy is also highly resistant to attack by hydrofluoric and sulfuric acids under many conditions, which has made it a long-standing choice in the chemical processing industry. Furthermore, Monel 400 Plate and Sheet can be readily fabricated using standard forming and machining techniques, and it accepts most common welding processes without significant loss of corrosion resistance or mechanical integrity. Its combination of durability, formability, and resistance to a broad spectrum of corrosive media continues to make it a trusted material across marine, chemical, oil and gas, and power generation industries.
